I used to love sitting next to the fireplace and reading when I was a kid.

The light from the flames provided enough light to read by too so I could sneak out and read and in the living room even after my mom called lights out.

Of course, mom caught me reading from time to time. She would just remind me not to stay up too late and then she would leave me to my books. I ended up sleeping in that old couch by the fireplace more times that I slept in my own bed I think. My whole life, I just knew that when I grew up I will get a home with a fireplace, just like the one I had grown up in. Unfortunately, I ended up going to college in the south. This meant renting an apartment and, of course, no fireplace. With the heat of the south, there aren’t a lot of places with fireplaces let alone apartments with fireplaces. My first Fall I started feeling really homesick and I found that reading just wasn’t the same without the glow or the smell of a fireplace. When my birthday came around, I wasn’t feeling very cheerful but when I opened up the boxes that my mom sent and I was surprised to see that she had sent a little electric fireplace. She also sent some fireplace scented candles. The electric fireplace works as a space heater too but it could also be used without any heat at all with just the flicker of the flames. It’s not super realistic, and not the real thing, but it’s about as close as I’m going to get in the south. Thank you Mom.

So my technician got my HVAC system all cleaned out and then installed the reusable air filter before he left that day.

I don’t want any HVAC issues so I change my air filter, in my heating and air conditioning system, every single month. This can be a little bit pricey but I think it’s worth it. I also have an HVAC technician come out and clean and check over my HVAC system at least twice a year too. I just want to keep everything running smoothly. However, I don’t like having to throw away the old air filter every single month; it seems like such a waste. Additionally, air filters are not recyclable either. I brought up this concern last spring when the HVAC company came out to clean my system. The technician told me about reusable air filters. I had no idea such a thing exists. Apparently, you just wash the reusable air filter and then reuse it month after month and they last over a decade. That’s over a hundred-twenty air filters not going into the landfill. Unfortunately, the technician did not have any reusable air filters with him at the time. However he did call his dispatcher and was told that they have reusable air filters at the base. Better yet, another technician was driving through the area and would be able to drop it off on his way. So my technician got my HVAC system all cleaned out and then installed the reusable air filter before he left that day. I feel great about it. I don’t know if I’m imagining it or not but I feel like the new air filter is working even better than the disposable ones. The air seems much cleaner and healthier. I also will be saving hundreds of dollars by not having to buy disposable air filters every month anymore.

Besides, we all waste a little bit

I just love getting lost in a great book. I have a study room with a fireplace and I spend most of my time in there sitting on my nice comfortable couch. There’s no TV or video games in the study room either. I just want peace and quiet and to hear nothing but the crackling of the firewood. I like being able to escape from life for a bit and I can do this in books. The fireplace keeps me comfortable and warm and the crackle of the flames is very relaxing. I have to admit, on days when it’s too hot to use the fireplace, sometimes I turn on the air-conditioning just a bit so that the fireplace can still be used. I know this is a little crazy but I do like the fireplace immensely. My wife has asked me why I would waste energy on the air conditioner when I’m using the fireplace at the same time. She thinks it’s like using the gas furnace and air conditioner at the same time and it doesn’t make any sense to her. I can’t blame her. This is pretty similar, but it’s not the same. Not to me anyway. You don’t get the same comfort from the gas furnace as you do from a fireplace. Besides, we all waste a little bit. My wife likes to take hour-long showers, for example, and I don’t bug her about wasting all that water. I guess running the AC and the fireplace at the same time is just the way that I am wasteful. Still, it doesn’t feel wasteful when I’m doing it.

I think I take air conditioning for granted but I depend on it to fall asleep because the cool air has scientifically been proven to help people sleep better.

There’s something nice about turning on the air conditioning and covering up in blankets for a deep, deep sleep.

Well, when my air conditioner stopped working, I realized how crucial my air conditioner really is to my wellbeing. I called a bunch of HVAC companies but they could not come out for at least 4 days. I did not want to spend my money for emergency HVAC services so I just had to wait it out. I had a bunch of window fans but they really didn’t do much. When the HVAC specialist finally came out for my AC repair I found out what the problem was: I had not been changing the air filters nearly enough. Besides that, I was using cheap air filters. The technician told me that I need to be using high quality air filters in order to protect my HVAC system. The high quality air filters keep dirt from entering my HVAC system and causing damage. It turned out that I also needed to have my air ducts clean so I had them do that as well. I’m happy that my air conditioner is working again but I’m not too happy about the bill. But, with the better air filters, and the clean ductwork, the air quality in my home has never been better.

My mom has been baking all morning long and it is boiling in the house.

I have the cooling system on full speed however it just can’t compete with the oven.

My buddy and I moved my mom into the spare living room 6 months ago. She is ready to retire and I need child care. So it is perfect. However, it was a sizable mistake to tell her about the school bake sale. I know she thinks she needs to stock the bake sale honestly by herself because the oven hasn’t turned off all morning. I am ecstatic she is happy about helping out. However, at this rate, it will take multiple hours before the home cools down enough for us to sleep. It is already sundown. That means my pal and I are all going to have a difficult time sleeping tonight. I would complain about it however it is already done, however besides, it is not honestly my mom’s fault that the cooling system doesn’t work right. After all, the cooling system should be able to keep up with the oven. It is not even Summer yet. If the cooling system can’t keep the home cool now it actually won’t be able too when the real heat hits either. I have known that the cooling system needed some repair for over a year now although I have been ignoring it and hoping it would go away. Of course, it doesn’t work that way. Things never just repair themselves. So I know I am going to have to call up a local air conditioner supplier in the morning. Hopefully they can repair the cooling system without charging too much.

Mom never went to church with us but that is another story. To be honest, I believe the only reason I went to church with my dad was for that ice cream afterwards. In the summer time it was sizzling in addition to uncomfortable, and dad never wanted to rest near the air conditioning because you couldn’t hear well if you sat next to the air conditioning. In the winter months the church was also sizzling because the church’s furnace worked wonderfully. In fact, it worked too well. I don’t know if it didn’t have a control machine or what but it was regularly well over 81 degrees in the church. The furnace would be blasting away while my good friend and I sweated in addition to suffered. At least I had a nice cool ice cream to look forward to. winter or summer, I knew I would get my ice cream for the drive home. That made it all worthwhile… Last year I went back home. Dad asked if I wanted to go to church with him. I didn’t but I went anyway. That old church now has central air conditioning! I didn’t mind it so much. Still, I bought us ice cream on the way home. After all, you can’t chop traditions.

Mom never wanted to sit near the air conditioner because you couldn’t hear well if you sat next to the air conditioner. I didn’t see that as much of a complication however obviously my father did. My associate and I consistently sat in the first or second row, and you could hear just nice there. However, you didn’t get any cool air in those pews. In the winter time months the church was also warm because the church’s boiler worked lovelyly. In fact, it worked too well. I don’t know if it didn’t have a temperature control or what however it was consistently well over 70 degrees in the church. The boiler would be blasting away while we sweated plus suffered. At least I had a nice cool ice cream to look forward to. winter time or summer, I knew I would get my ice cream for the drive home. That made it all worthwhile… Last month I went back home. Mom asked if I wanted to go to church with him. I didn’t although I went anyway. That old church now has central cooling system! I didn’t mind it so much. I heard some scratching at the back door, however when I opened it I found a easily pregnant hound mix laying there, and people are consistently dumping their pets around here plus it makes me so mad, but of course the shelter was closed by this time so I took the pet inside plus made his comfortable; She genuinely like my radiant floors plus seemed to be making a nest for herself in the corner of the kitchen, but i hoped he wouldn’t have his puppies that night but, sure enough, he did just that.

I was up all night delivering puppies while laying on the floor… At least the floor was nice plus warm so I was comfortable, and mama pet plus his puppies were also comfortable on the heated floor.

I turned the heat up a few degrees in the kitchen inorder to make sure they stayed comfortable. Around 3am all of the puppies were delivered plus I finally got some sleep. I just knew I was going to have a easily sore back from laying on the hard floor for half the night… That did not turn out to be the case at all. In fact, when I woke up a few hours later, my back felt perfectly fine. I know the underfloor heating kept me from getting a sore back. I am grateful for that. Mama pet plus puppies were also doing just nice in the day. I have decided to let them stay. I know I’m a pet foster parent now. I want to make sure they stay warm plus comfortable until the puppies are old enough to find homes of their own.
