It’s pretty amazing to me what people can do when they put their minds to it.
I guess that is part of what has been so surprising about how this country has handled the pandemic.
It seemed to me that we would all band together and rise up together to fight this virus. That didn’t happen. So, I knew pretty quick that I was going to be in the HVAC comfort of my home for the duration. And, I was right as it appears the worst of this situation is in front of us. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Since I was going to be home working all summer, I decided to take on the HVAC utility bill. This is something that I have wanted to do for years now. I just never fully committed to a cost saving strategy. I also wanted to save as much money as possible given the economic downturn. Plus, being at home would allow me to do the one thing I really hadn’t done before. I took daily control of the HVAC setting. It wasn’t all that popular of a move initially. But, we all got used to it. I never let the inside of the house be more than 15 degrees cooler than the outside temps. This made for some warm afternoons. But, we employed a bunch of fans and that helped tremendously. Fans cost less that a tenth to operate than it does for the HVAC to be on. That is a deal I can live with. Well, it all worked out and we are going into winter with a few hundred dollars in HVAC cost savings as well.
