Closing Heating and Air Conditioning vents throughout the house can have unintended consequences

My Grandparents are living in the same house they have owned since the early 1960s.

Although they have made updates plus improvements throughout, much of the house looks enjoy it is frozen in time, various generations back.

They still have the same aged wall paper in the study room that has taken on an amber hue after decades of light plus sunshine exposure. All of the appliances in the study room have been updated at least once in the years since, but the lodgeets plus countertops are original. This is a trend throughout the entire house, as there’s a scary mix of features that look brand modern versus others that could exist in a museum. When you get to the hour floor, the home’s features look increasingly older. Even the lavatory looks enjoy it is frozen in time. One thing that they’ve been doing for years is keeping the ceiling air vents upstairs closed whenever they’re downstairs. The only various vents that get opened at night include the vent in the master lavatory plus the vent in the master living room. I told them that this puts unnecessary strain on their cooling system, but they politely told myself and others that they’ve been doing this for years to no ill effects. However, a few weeks later I was visiting them plus noticed there was an Heating and Air Conditioning serviceman’s truck in the driveway. Two workers were installing a modern central cooling system in our Grandparents house. I casually asked a single of them what happened, plus he told myself and others their cooling system was fried from leaving so many vents throughout shut all of the time. It added so much extra strain to the ventilation that it fried the cooling system altogether.
