I have recently decided that I want to take a year off school and go on a mission trip with my church.
My church does many mission trips every year and I have been on a few of them before. Normally the mission trips only last for a week to a month, but I have really been waiting a change lately and I think this would be the perfect thing for me to do. I have talked with my parents about my decision to take time off of school and they don’t have a problem with it at all. So, I talked with the person organizing the trip and let them know my decision to join after all. I have about three weeks until we leave for a third world country and I have been trying to prepare myself as best as I can. However, there is something I am not sure I am ready to handle and that is the lack of air conditioning where I will be going. I have been lucky enough to grow up in a home with an updated heating and cooling system, so this is not something that I have had to worry about before going on this trip. I am trying to decide if I want to go out a purchase a mini air conditioning unit so that I will be comfortable where I am going, but I don’t think that is a good idea. I don’t want to seem like I can’t handle the weather conditions by bring my own air conditioner, no matter how small it might be. In the end I did not bring the air conditioner with me and I am happy that I was able to brave the elements on my own.
