My husband believes that he can fix anything and everything. For the most part, he does a good job taking care of things that need attention around the house. However, there are some things that he just can’t do on his own. For instance, our HVAC system needs servicing twice per year by an HVAC professional. My husband believes that he can do it himself despite never having experience with furnaces or air conditioners. He spends all afternoon taking things apart, washing them, and putting things back together. When I ask him what he’s repairing, he mumbles a generic answer that doesn’t specifically tell me what he’s doing. I understand the importance of proper HVAC maintenance from a certified HVAC professional, but it would hurt my husband’s ego if he thought he couldn’t do it on his own. This is why I hire an HVAC professional in private after my husband “services” our HVAC system himself. There’s no telling how much damage my husband does to our furnace and air conditioner, which is why I always hire an HVAC professional after he’s done. I’ve made it known to the HVAC company that they need to keep everything private and they’ve always respected that. They show up in the middle of the afternoon while my husband is at work and I can come home for lunch. They spend one hour servicing the HVAC system and then they leave. I clean up all pieces of evidence and return to working knowing that our HVAC system is taken care of.
