I recently reconnected with an old friend from middle school.
We met him in the fifth grade when in math class.
Although we hung out together during school, this changed when we ended up attending different colleges. He studied engineering at a larger state college while I pursued psychology and philosophy at a smaller liberal arts school not far from our hometown. Whenever we managed to meet up, we’d typically head to a bar in the evening or go kayaking during the afternoon. Because my buddy recently moved back into town, we have finally found ways to hang out again. We ended up joining the same gym. We carpool to the facility and help each other out with workouts. If one of us is using the bench press, the other is around to spot for the sake of safety. It’s also helpful to have a buddy at the gym for the sake of motivation. I am less likely to be lazy during my workout when I see him working hard and pushing myself. Sometimes, we use the pool at the gym or run on the indoor track. It’s a big fitness center with a wide range of amenities, including indoor racquetball and basketball courts. One of my favorite aspects of the gym is the steam room. At the end of the workout, I like to use the steam room and get a good sweat going in the heat. It is a great way to relax, clear my head and clear out my pores. It helps to prevent muscle soreness. I then shower in the locker rooms and have a better day because of the strenuous workout.
