The customer kept talking to me throughout the repair

I’m not a very big people person.

I don’t enjoy talking to people for a long amount of time. It’s one of the reasons why I chose a job that allows me to work alone. I have been working in the HVAC repair industry for the past three years. I enjoy the job immensely and I love to work with my hands. Sometimes I have to talk to customers, but most of my job is working alone. Last week, I had a customer that insisted on talking to me throughout the entire repair. I went to the condo to fix an AC issue. I knew the repair was going to take an hour or two, but I expected to be done with the repair and out of the condo by lunch time. I picked up the parts from our workshop on the other side of town and I went right back to the residence to make the AC repair. Unfortunately, the customer insisted on talking to me the whole time. I tried to get the customer to leave, but he never got the hint. It took an extra hour to complete the repair because I had to stop every 10 minutes to answer a question or explain the repair. When I got back to the repair shop, my boss wanted to know why I took forever to complete the simple repair. I didn’t want to take an extra 10 minutes to explain things to my boss, but I thought this was probably one conversation that I should have for a few minutes.
