When I went to clean the outdoor AC condenser unit in the spring season, my son said he wanted to help.
I told him he could help first by helping to clear all the leaves from around the HVAC component.
He pulled the large trash can over and we started filling it with all the leaves and other debris. Then I opened the top of the HVAC component and checked inside. Of course I had already turned the shut off for the power, so I knew there was no risk of being electrocuted. There were a few leaves inside the HVAC component, so we dug those out. There I let my son carefully spray the fin coils to get all the dirt outside of the unit. My son did a pretty good job considering it was his first time cleaning out a condenser unit. I showed him how to fix the fin coils as well carefully with a fin coil brush. I let him know that we had to do this once per year to make sure the cooling system was ready to go before the summer months. Of course, we also had to call up the HVAC technician so he could tune-up the cooling system. I let my son know that it is important to have regular tune-ups or the whole system could break down. He said we wouldn’t want to be overheated in the summer because it gets so hot, and I shook my head and agreed with him. He asked me if I ever thought about becoming an HVAC expert. I told him no, but it was something he might be good at. He laughed and said he would probably make an awesome HVAC expert one day.
