When I redid the floors in my living room, I wanted to add radiant heat under the floorboard.
I talked to a contractor and the guy gave me an estimate for $8,000.
I couldn’t believe it was going to cost that much money to add radiant heat in one room. I went online to look at other options. I found some electric heating mats that can be connected to make a grid pattern. The electric heating mats were 3 square yards each. I had to buy several of the heating mats to cover the area of the floor. I felt proud of myself for finding a solution to the expensive problem. I ripped up all of the old flooring and carefully placed the new flooring down. When the subfloor was finished, I placed all of the radiant heating mats on the floorboards. I checked them carefully to make sure they were working well before I added the main flooring. I spent several days on the project. When I was finished, the radiant function didn’t work. I checked everything twice and I had no way of figuring out the problem without tearing up the flooring again. I paid the price for doing the work on my own. I couldn’t return the malfunctioning radiant heated flooring products and I wasted a lot of money trying to fix the problem. I should have hired a contractor and paid for the actual radiant heated flooring that comes with a warranty from the installation company. I won’t make that mistake in the future when working on household construction projects.
