Good neighbor show me the winter heating ropes

And we replaced weather stripping together, rolled out more insulation in the attic and sealed up the house

I moved up north a couple of years ago and I’m so thankful that I landed in a spot with such good people. The community that I’m now a part of is just tremendous. And I was a bit worried about that. Along with worrying about a real winter, gas furnaces, snow, ice, heating cost and all that goes with that, I was worried about the culture. I just wasn’t sure that I’d fit in. Being from the south, I felt the differences right away and it wasn’t just the cold weather and the fact that I now had a gas furnace as opposed to a heat pump. The food was different along with the weather. I could hardly understand people because they talked so fast. And people looked at me like I was a bit stupid because of my accent. However, I quickly learned that the people around here are wonderful. They have been so welcoming and have gone out of their way to introduce me to the ways of life up here in the north. I have wonderful neighbors on both sides. One of them was instrumental in making sure that I was warm in the winter and didn’t pay to much for HVAC heating. He showed me just how to prepare my little house for the winter. The tighter the better, he would tell me. And we replaced weather stripping together, rolled out more insulation in the attic and sealed up the house. He even walked the exterior of my home with me in order to seal up any gaps that could allow cold air in and the HVAC heated air out. I’m lucky to live here even if I do sound strange to these people.
