I don’t think I’ve ever spent as much time out of town as I did in 2020 and the first part of this year.
- But, there really wasn’t much choice.
I don’t have a wife and kids so I wasn’t neglecting a family. However, my girlfriend sure wasn’t a fan of the time I spent out on the road. When they closed up our offices with the zone controlled HVAC due to the pandemic, I had to go home to work like everyone else. And that was fine working from the air conditioning at home for the first couple of months. Then, it became very obvious that I needed to get out to our customers in my normal role. Still, I just wasn’t comfortable flying even with the HEPA filters on planes these days. That meant loading up the car, hitting the air conditioning during the summer of 2020 and hitting the highway. This was the only feasible way for me to get to our customers and provide the service we are known for. That meant a whole lot of nights away from the air conditioning in my home. But I was glad to find there was some great heating and cooling equipment in the hotels along the interstate. If I could see the wall air conditioning unit from the parking lot, I was in. That sort of HVAC equipment was just the most consistent at proving quality heating and air while I was on the road the past year. I don’t think I’ll want to repeat that sort of road trip but I’m thankful for good heating and cooling comfort along the way.
