I used to be afraid of going down into the basement when I lived with my parents.
It was really bad when I was super young.
I remember when we first moved into that old house, I thought there was something in the basement. There was an old gas furnace down there and everytime that thing would engage, it would paralyze me with fear. My parents were always trying to send me down there to either get the laundry baskets or sweep the floor down there. I would get in trouble if I didn’t go into the basement, so I had to face my fear. Even when I was older, I still felt frightened. My father was saying that we could add a new room down there and I could live in the basement, but I immediately said no to that idea. There was no way I would stay down there, and I didn’t like the air quality in the basement either. So I was able to keep my room and eventually I was happy when I moved out. Even though I moved into a lousy apartment, it felt so much better than being in that house and having to frequently go down into the basement. It wasn’t like I was attacked by a ghost or anything, but I still always feel creeped out when going into that basement. Even to this day when I go to visit my parents, my mother will typically ask if I can grab a few things from the basement. I guess that’s why I don’t like visiting that much and they still have the same old gas furnace that’s so creepy! I wish they would call the HVAC company and go for a new HVAC system already.
