I was pretty foolish to try to fix the ductwork problem we were having.
I thought maybe it just needed to be cleaned, so I got my Shop-vac and vacuumed as far as I could reach into the ductwork system.
I got a lot of dirt and all, but when I ran the HVAC system after that, the system was still struggling to provide enough heating. I basically had to set up a bunch of portable heaters and call the HVAC company. When the HVAC specialist arrived, he checked everything including the ductwork. He managed to find a bunch of places in the ductwork that were leaking and he said we needed duct sealing and repair. He also said we should probably have the ductwork cleaned. When I told him I already cleaned the ductwork, he laughed. He said he never heard of anybody trying to clean the ductwork system, but he promised me with his tools, he could do a much better job. I even made a bet with the guy, I told him if he could pull more than a handful of dirt out of the ductwork, then I would pay him for the job, otherwise it had to be on him. He agreed and he pulled mounds of dirt out of there. He took before and after pictures and I could even see as far as I got, but he got everything! I was more than happy to pay him for his work. This is the kind of guy I wouldn’t mind hanging out with at the bar and just enjoying a drink while talking about random stuff.
