The general contractor is not fast

If I had to do it all over again, I would just go buy a place. This custom building a perfect “dream” home is way more trouble than it’s worth. I know my wife doesn’t think that, she is loving all the detail work, but I just want to have a house big enough for all my stuff ,that’s it. I’m not a fancy guy, I don’t want much, and I don’t care about a lot of these details. Plus it’s not like it’s any cheaper to build than to buy, anyway. Do you know how much all of this costs? Well first of all we hired a general contractor, but this guy is actually more of a foreman and organizer, so paying him is just the first step. One of the jobs of the general contractor is to get the needed work and building permits from the local authorities, and organize the labor. Home and building construction is a complicated process requiring the services of many different kinds of skilled tradespeople. The general contractor may not do the roof, but they will go subcontract a roofing company to get that work done. The same with the plumbing ,the electrical work, the HVAC system, and all the other details involved with home and building construction. When all of the construction is finished and we can finally move in, I’m sure it will all be worth it, but it’s taking a long time. General contractors are not known for being fast workers, so all we can do is sit and wait.
