My teenage son wanted me to take him out to the beach.
I guess there was some sort of skater convention going on or something.
Well I couldn’t take him. I had things going on today. Besides, I didn’t want to hang out with skaters all day long. So I said “no”. He wasn’t happy but I thought he had given up on the idea when I saw him go outside with his skateboard a half hour later. He was gone all day. I didn’t see him until dinner time. When he showed up he was hot, sweaty, and tire. He drank half a gallon of water and then plopped his sweaty self on the sofa in front of the air conditioner vent. I was about to scold him but I could see how exhausted he was. He then told me that he has skated all the way to the beach. It is over 14 miles one way to the beach! He said that going there was not too bad. It was still early and it wasn’t very hot. However, coming back was terrible. He said he stopped at at least two air conditioned fast food places along the way to cool down and get something to drink. He was very happy to be home in front of the air conditioner. He swore he wasn’t going to ever leave this air conditioner vent again. I wish I could believe that. I can’t believe he skated all the way to the beach! And back! If I’d have known he was going to do that I would have taken in my air conditioned car. I would have been a lot safer.
