I had just picked my son from preschool which was a few blocks away so we normally walked to and from school.
As we were walking home with my son telling me all about her day, a guy in a motorcycle sped past us at a very high speed.
Before I could process what was happening, I heard screams. Looking ahead I saw a boy sprawled on the road. He had been hit by the speeding rider and he immediately took off. There was blood all around him and before any of us could dial the emergency number a home services truck stopped beside us. A guy who I assumed was a heating contractor dashed out and asked me to help him get the boy in the truck so that we could rush him to the hospital. The boy was immediately rushed to the emergency room and his dad arrived shortly after and that is when we left but promised to call him to find out how the boy was doing. As we were driving back the guy told me he was a heating technician working for the local heating dealer and at the time of the accident, he was on his way to do annual maintenance of a dual fuel system. I asked him what it entailed and he explained that the system has a furnace and an electric heat pump and therefore needed a furnace/heater tune-up and heat pump service. I also found out he was the same person who was supposed to deliver my furnace filter and fix the gas supply to my fireplace. We discussed other types of new heating equipment such as a smart or digital thermostat that could help with indoor comfort.
