I mean, I put in an office with all the stuff I had in my former job even down to the quality heating and air.
It was interesting to hear from a lot of former colleagues last year as everyone was attempting to make the transition to working remotely from home. Of course, for much of 2020 many of us didn’t venture too far from the air conditioning safety of our homes. I was the same way in fact. However, working from home wasn’t exactly new to me in 2020. Working from home started for me in 2018. Although it happened as unexpectedly as what happened with my former colleagues and the pandemic. In 2018, I was 54 years old and a part of the executive management for a large company. I had a really nice office that enjoyed zone controlled HVAC. There was still challenging work ahead of me and I had the passion still. But one day, I was called into a conference room. That’s when I was summarily dismissed from my position at the company. The reason stated was a reorganization. However, it was really a salary dump and I wasn’t the only member of senior leadership to get the axe. But I didn’t exactly hang my head. Instead, I cleared out the large guest room in our house and put in an office. I mean, I put in an office with all the stuff I had in my former job even down to the quality heating and air. I had the HVAC company install a ductless heat pump inside that guest room. It turned out better than my old office in fact. So, I was able to give plenty of tips to old friends who were working from home for the first time.
