Trying to seriously decide what we were going to do about retirement was much tougher than all the dreaming we’d done for decades.
It was always like retirement was the ultimate reward and my wife and I would fantasize about where we’d live.
Then, I was suddenly in my last few years of work and we really had to get serious about what we were going to do. Did we really want to move south the sun and all that air conditioning? There’d be no more winter and no more high heating costs to deal with. And we could be outside pretty much year round enjoying our golf and tennis. But that would also mean leaving behind our kids, grandkids and all of our other family and friends. Ultimately, the idea of moving away from all the people we adore was just too much for us. So we decided that we’d stay put but build a new house for just us. And perhaps we’d go south for extended periods of time to avoid all the cold weather. But now that we have the house built, my wife says she’s the most comfortable with the heating and cooling that she’s ever been. That’s saying a lot since she is notorious for being cold and wanting more out of the gas furnace in the winter. But the geothermal heat pump we chose provides the sort of HVAC heating that has my wife happier with winter than I’ve ever seen her. This has to be due to the radiant floor heating. It is just a spectacular heating method.
